What is a Midwife?
Throughout time, midwives have been the traditional care providers for mothers and infants. We are experts in normal birth, and view pregnancy and birth as a normal life process. Most people know midwives as birth attendants, but do not realize we also provide a range of reproductive health care. We offer services to women of all ages and stages of life. We also compassionately take care of people who were born with female genitalia, but do not identify as women. As midwives we strive to create relationships with you, which allows us to better understand your healthcare priorities and needs. We also understand that reproductive healthcare is complex. Many of you come into our clinics with your own beliefs about your body and health. These beliefs are informed by your experiences, your culture, your relationships, and sometimes through experiences of trauma. We understand that talking about your reproductive health can make you feel vulnerable. Midwives create safe space so you can bring up all the things.
